Family learning is not a new concept; it's not something that has become a new fad in bringing up children. Family learning has been going on for years in one form or another. Parents and carers are a children's first teachers. Parents and carers are the ones that teach children to sit up, to speak, to walk, the list is endless.
Generation after generation have engaged in family learning without realising it. More often than not it is a mum or dad, grandparents, siblings or carers who teach a child to ride a bike or tie a shoe lace. Only 15% of a child's time is spent in school so it is essential that learning is part of daily life.
Family learning is not about just doing English and maths or sitting doing homework its much more its about discovering, experimenting, creating and having fun together. Learning as a family can enrich a families life, bring them closer together, and forge relationships.

Some parents who haven't had the most positive schooling experience can often worry that their child might experience the same difficulties. Through family learning parents can improve their own skills and can gain confidence in supporting their children in their education.
Families In Focus has developed a unique approach to family learning that supports parents in the home. Please contact us if you would like to know more about our approach.
